Johanna Henriksson the Change Maker

Updated: May 20, 2019

As part of our partnership agreement with Lund University, final year medical students will be sent on an exchange program every year to assist in health care services in rural areas in Ghana.

Johanna Henriksson President of the Medical Education Council and Head of Education in the Student Union arrived in Ghana a week ago to start her exchange program; she is interested in surgery, anesthesiology and emergency medicine and she is currently assisting doctors at Margaret Marquat hospital for the period of her stay.

Over the weekend, Johanna had a talk session with some students in one of our partner schools on our “one girl one box”project where she spoke about puberty and sexual reproductive health, she encouraged students to stay in school and abstain from sex if they were not ready to be parents. She also passed through the community clinic in Helu to have a short discussion with the staff, she was awed by the little resources they had but still did not relent in their efforts to provide the best health care support they can, she praised them for their commitment and hopes to visit them again.

Johanna will also be assisting staff of ihelpAfrica in drafting a healthcare and educational development plan for future projects implementation.

We at ihelpAfrica say welcome, together we can make help Africa gain its greatness again.
